A few words for a visible tribute

Funeral Flower Ribbon Messages: What to Write

Choose short funeral ribbon wording, check names and relationships, and keep longer personal messages on the enclosure card.

Short answer

Keep a funeral flower ribbon brief: a relationship such as “Beloved Sister,” a sentiment such as “Forever Remembered,” or a clear sender name. Put the longer message on the card. Ask the florist whether lettering is available for your chosen arrangement, what will fit, and whether there is an added charge.

Decide what the ribbon should say

A ribbon is part of the visible display, so choose words the family is comfortable sharing with everyone at the service. It can name the person’s relationship, express remembrance, or identify a group sending the tribute. Trying to do all three can make the lettering crowded.

An enclosure card gives you more room for a memory, a personal message, and the full sender names. A ribbon does not replace that card. Keep enough identifying detail on the card for the family to understand who sent the flowers after the display is taken apart.

Short wording you can adapt

These examples are starting points. Choose wording that sounds like you and fits the relationship. You do not need a formal phrase if a simple name or familiar family title feels more appropriate.

  • In Loving Memory
  • Forever Remembered
  • With All Our Love
  • Beloved Mother
  • Dear Brother
  • From Your Friends at [Team Name]

Agree on family titles

A shared tribute can represent people with different relationships to the person who died. “Our Grandmother” may fit a gift from grandchildren, while “Our Mother and Grandmother” may fit a wider family group if the florist has enough space. Agree on the wording before the lettering is made.

Use the name or title the family recognizes. Check spelling, accents, and the preferred language. If an unfamiliar script or special character is important, ask whether it can be reproduced accurately. Do not shorten a name without agreement just to make it fit.

Check the ribbon with the florist

Ribbon width, lettering method, placement, and the flower design affect how much text is readable. There is no single character limit that applies to every florist. A phrase that fits a broad standing spray ribbon may be awkward across a small vase arrangement.

Bloom Lane’s service catalog does not make custom ribbon lettering a universal included feature. Ask about the selected product, wording, price, and preparation time before relying on a ribbon request. Writing an instruction in an order note is not confirmation that the florist can supply it.

Approve the final wording once

For a group order, have one person approve the exact text and answer any questions. Keep the approved wording with the order receipt. Multiple relatives sending different corrections can cause confusion close to the delivery deadline.

Check that religious language, military titles, and organization names are accurate and welcome. Keep private family information off a public ribbon. If lettering cannot be arranged in time, a clearly signed card still carries your message without delaying a tribute the venue can receive.
